# About Velostream

Velostream is an entertainment-technology engineering firm in Salt Lake City, Utah. Its engineers design, build and operate live and on-demand video streaming systems: the headend, transcoding and packaging, dynamic ad insertion, DRM and content security, multi-CDN and multicast delivery, the applications on every screen, and the 24/7 operations that keep it all on the air.

## History

The team's work in film and television goes back nearly two decades. Its engineers built a private screening network that streamed films for Rupert Murdoch to buyers around the world, a streaming platform for Fox after the Disney transaction, streaming platform engineering for Disney and ESPN, and Vidgo, a live television service with more than 500 channels that became one of only six OTT platforms certified to carry ESPN networks.

Velostream LLC was formed in June 2023, when it acquired the streaming technology and engineering business of Crowdvac, the Salt Lake City company founded in 2012 that had carried that work until then. The same engineers continued under the Velostream name.

## The patent

The video management system at the center of the team's work is the subject of U.S. Patent No. 12,581,137, "Video management system for video files and live streaming content," granted March 17, 2026 to Velostream's chief technology officer, Stephen Hird.
