# College video streaming platforms, built to run themselves

A campus has athletics, ceremonies, lectures, student media and sponsors, and no broadcast operations staff. Velostream built a fully automated streaming service for colleges that was licensed for $30 million.

## What a college video streaming platform has to do

- Live athletics and events, often several at once, from venues with uneven connectivity.
- Campus channels and on demand: a schedule of live and recorded programming that publishes itself.
- Rights and blackout rules enforced automatically.
- Sponsorship and ad insertion, server-side, measured and reported.
- Applications for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Vizio, Sony TV, iOS, Android and the web.
- Accessibility: captions and audio description as a matter of course.
- Automation above all: a student volunteer and a schedule should be enough to run it.

## What we built

A fully automated streaming service for colleges: ingest, scheduling, transcoding, packaging, security, ad insertion, delivery and applications, designed so that a campus runs it without a control room. Built by the Velostream team and licensed for $30 million. The automation comes from the same video management system the team built for a 500-channel commercial television service, the one described in U.S. Patent No. 12,581,137 (https://velostream.com/patent/).

## How we engage

- Build: a platform for your institution, conference or network, on your cloud accounts.
- License: the platform and its source, for organizations that want to own and run it.
- Operate: a managed service, monitored from our Utah operations center.
